ILMINSTER NEWS: Retirement party for a “true servant to the local community”

AN Ilminster firefighter who has dedicated the past 32 years to helping to keep people safe has been given a magnificent send-off at his retirement party.

Family, friends and colleagues past and present came together at Ilminster Bowling Club on Saturday (July 8, 2017) to wish Andy Miller well in his retirement and thank him for all he had done.

A friend and former colleague of Andy’s, Mark English, said: “Andy is a person who is respected by all. He has been a true professional and will be greatly missed by everyone at Ilminster Fire Station and the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

“He had a great send-off at his retirement party which is testament to the tremendous commitment he has shown to the local community.

“It was an emotional night but it was a perfect way to thank Andy for what he has done. He is one of the nicest blokes you’ll ever meet and has been a true servant to the local community.”

Earlier this year Andy was presented with Ilminster Citizens Award by Ilminster Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, in recognition of his service to the community.

The Mayor said: “Andy has given 32 years of service to the Fire Service and through his position as a retained firefighter shown exceptional commitment to the town and the surrounding area.

“As Ilminster Station Commander, Andy has led his crews by example – he has given up time with family and friends to keep the fire engine operational and made many other sacrifices to protect the people of Ilminster without them ever really knowing.”
