ILMINSTER NEWS: Flats planned for old police station

THE former Ilminster Police Station looks set to be turned into seven flats.

Plans have been submitted to South Somerset District Council to make alterations and convert the old police station at The Butts, on the junction with Blackdown View, into living accommodation along with a first floor extension.

The proposals also include the construction of cycle and bin stores and associated parking.

A spokesman for RWTC Property Consultancy Ltd, representing the applicants Ilminster Estates Ltd, have said in a report: “The proposal will provide good quality, modern housing for locals in the centre of town.

“It also represents an improvement for locals by showing further investment in an important building that is prominent in the context of the dense residential buildings nearby.”

It is hoped that the council will have determined the application by March 13, 2017.

It was back in late 2015 when the police station was put up for sale, while officers moved into new premises at the doctors surgery along Canal Way last year.
