SOMERSET NEWS - UPDATE: Student dies following Taunton crash

IT has been confirmed that one of the two female pedestrians involved in a serious road traffic accident in Taunton has died.
Police appealed for witnesses following the incident in Greenway Road at about 9.15pm on Monday (December 12, 2016) night outside Taunton School.
The two pedestrians were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton – one of them with serious life threatening head injuries and the other an arm injury.
But Taunton School headmaster Lee Glaser issued a statement on Tuesday (December 13, 2016) morning to say that one of the girls, aged 16, had died.
“It is with great sadness that I write to confirm that, following a road traffic collision yesterday evening, a female pupil of our International School has died,” he wrote.
“She was a young woman with great potential and a wonderful personality.
“Words cannot describe the sadness felt by our school community. We are in a state of devastation and shock.
“I now ask that you allow her family and the Taunton School community the space and privacy needed to mourn the loss of such a special person.”
The statement added that a second international student, who was also involved in the incident, was stable and being “well cared for.”
A police spokesman said: “The driver of the car – a man in his 20s – was arrested shortly after the incident and remains in police custody.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our investigations.”
Anyone able to help is asked to contact the force collision investigation unit on 101.
