ILMINSTER NEWS: Welcome to Ilminster – A Fairtrade Town

VISITORS to Ilminster cannot fail to recognise that they are entering South Somerset’s first Fairtrade Town following the installation of new road signs declaring the town’s Fairtrade status.
Thanks to generous contributions from Ilminster Town Council, Ilminster Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Fairtrade shop Just Things and donations from members of the public, the five new road signs were installed last week.
Chairman of Ilminster Fairtrade, Roger Gurner, said: “This is a huge milestone for Ilminster Fairtrade, having first secured Fairtrade Town status for Ilminster in February 2015.
“This project could not have been realised without the full support of Ilminster Town Council, for which we are extremely grateful.
“The support from traders and individuals has also been very heartening and we hope the signs provide a source of civic pride for the whole town.”
The road signs project is one of a number of exciting projects delivered by Ilminster Fairtrade. The project was included within the Action Plan that was submitted to the Fairtrade Foundation earlier this year, securing Ilminster’s Fairtrade Town status for a further two years.
