ILMINSTER NEWS: Fireworks display goes off with a bang!

ILMINSTER Town Football Club would like to thank everyone who attended the annual Fireworks Spectacular at Britten’s Field.
Around 1,500 converged on the new Archie Gooch Pavilion on Sunday (November 6, 2016) for the bonfire and fireworks display which was sponsored by the Shrubbery Hotel.
The heavens opened mid-afternoon and there were fears that it might spoil the party, but the rain stopped just in time to encourage those who had not bought advance tickets to venture out.
Angie Blackwell, of Cottage Flowers, Ilminster, had the difficult job of selecting a winner in the children’s Make a Guy competition. In the end she went with Neroche Primary School as the winners and Cygnet Pre-School as runners-up.

The club held its first fireworks display last year, but did not have the luxury of the Archie Gooch Pavilion.
So the pavilion proved a popular area with people where drinks were served including mulled wine.
Another outside bar was set-up and run by Gemini CC while a barbecue was doing a roaring trade with support from Bonner’s Butchers.
A large bonfire was lit and illuminated the night sky while the crowds enjoyed a fabulous fireworks display put on by Crewkerne-based Stellar Fireworks.
The display began following a customary countdown from ten to one and this was carried out by Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh who attended the event along with his family.
A club spokesman said: “It was a really great night and we’d like to thank everyone who came along and supported the event. We hope people enjoyed the evening.”
Organisers would also like to thank Tesco, Yeovil Hire Centre, Bradfords Tool Hire, Gemini CC, Gary Lawrence and all the volunteers that made the event possible.
