ILMINSTER NEWS: Charting a millennium of Ilminster history

AN INFORMATION board with historical facts about 1,000 years of life in Ilminster is set to be officially unveiled later this month.
The board will be installed on the wall of the Old Bank Building next to the Co-op in the Market Square.
The Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, will be joined by Ilminster’s vicar Rev Nigel Done and president of Ilminster Rotary Club, Harley Pope, will be at the unveiling on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Children from Greenfylde First School are also expected to be at the ceremony.
The information board has been an Ilminster Rotary Club project and funded by a legacy left by former Rotarian John Storey.
Rotarian Tony Walker, himself the Deputy Mayor of Ilminster, is delighted that the long-awaited project – which has been backed by local residents and businesses – is to come to fruition.
“It’s great that this is going to happen at long last,” he said.
The official unveiling at 2pm on November 15 will come just a few days before the annual Victorian Evening and switching-on of the Christmas lights on Friday, November 18, 2016, in Ilminster.
