ILMINSTER NEWS: Ramping up access for all at town market

TWO kerbside ramps have been bought to help make the weekly market more accessible for shoppers in Ilminster.
The ramps bridge the gap between the road and pavement levels so that wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams can easily move from one level to another in the centre of Ilminster.
The ramps – bought by Ilminster Town Council - are put in place on Thursdays for the weekly market when access would otherwise be restricted.
The Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Val Keitch, said: “One of the market traders saw ramps being used during roadworks and suggested it would assist people coming to the market.
“The town council is always keen to improve accessibility and found a suitable product. We hope that it will make life a little easier for people who come to the weekly market.”
The market takes place every Thursday morning in and around the Market House in the centre of the town. There is a wide range of foods and goods for sale – bread, fish, preserves, cakes, vegetables, olives and nuts, dog beds and winter clothing.
