ILMINSTER NEWS: Plans coming together for fireworks display

BRITTEN’S Field in Ilminster will be closed to the public from 2.30pm on Sunday (November 6, 2016) to allow for final preparations ahead of the town’s fireworks display.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural bonfire and firework event, Ilminster Town Football Club are organising a similar event this weekend.
In order to make the final preparations for the event, which opens at 4pm, Britten’s Field will be closed to the public from 2.30pm and there will be stewards on duty at access points and across the area to make sure that the area is cleared of people.
Signs have been put up around Britten’s Field.
The Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, said: “We know that people like to use Britten’s Field, particularly on Sunday afternoons, but we need to consider all the health and safety aspects of the bonfire and firework event.
“The safest thing to do is close the access points and not allow the public into the area whilst the final preparations are made and the event is underway. Britten’s Field will be open again, as usual on Monday (November 7) morning.”
The bonfire and firework event which will be based around the new Archie Gooch Pavilion will also have a barbeque and bar area. Tickets for the event can be bought on the gate.

Admission charge on the night will be £7 for adults, £3 for Under-16s and free for under-threes.
The judging of a Guy competition – which has attracted lots of entries from local schoolchildren – will take place at 4.45pm. The bonfire will be lit at 5pm and the fireworks display at 6pm.
A spokesman for Ilminster Town Football Club said: “With the great turnout last year we have added an improved entrance to the site through the new Archie Gooch Pavilion entrance.
“There will be a bigger bonfire, a larger barbecue, a larger bar, more lighting and we have also got a local Samba band to keep people entertained through the night.
“This will be a great evening for the community of Ilminster – so please come along and show your support so we can do it all again next year.”
Ilminster Cricket Club, meanwhile, has said that its bar facilities at The Shed – newly-named Ricer’s Shed - on Ilminster Recreation Ground WILL NOT be open during the fireworks display.
