SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: MP Marcus Fysh loves the lorry

SOUTH Somerset MP Marcus Fysh opened day of family fun at the recent Love the Lorry event hosted by Deardens Haulage at the Windwhistle Inn at Cricket St Thomas near Chard.
With a bouncy castle and ‘Hook the Truck’ the day had plenty of fun activities for all ages as well as the impressive lorries themselves.
The event had a serious side as the Road and Haulage Association use it as a way to highlight the importance of haulage to the UK economy. Representatives opened the lorry doors to speak to members of the public, Government and industry figures and possible future HGV drivers to explain more about the industry.
Mr Fysh, the MP for Yeovil which covers the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne areas as well as Yeovil, said: “I had a great time at Love the Lorry; these are seriously impressive machines and I’d like to thank all the organisers for putting on the day.
“I also learnt some interesting facts about the industry – for example around 85% of the food we eat is transported by UK registered lorries.
“The industry has some challenges such as fuel prices and environmental issues and I am keen to represent their views in Westminster. Upgrading the road network is a massive focus for the South West and dualling the A303 in particular will be a huge help to our local economy.”
