CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Royal British Legion branch supports Legion homes

THE Ilminster branch of the Royal British Legion has recently presented two large cheques to help the vital work of the organisation which does so much for Armed Forces personnel and their families.

Tony Moore, treasurer of the Ilminster branch, presented £2,250 each to the Somerset Legion House in Weston-super-Mare and the Dunkirk Memorial House near Taunton.

Somerset Legion House is one of four Legion Break Centres, which the Royal British Legion runs to offer short-term breaks to individuals and families in need of respite. The aim of the break service is to provide beneficiaries with a rest or escape from any life-problems they may be experiencing, including illness, bereavement or social isolation.

Dunkirk Memorial House is one of six Legion run care homes. Dunkirk Memorial House is exclusive to Legion beneficiaries, which makes for a unique community. It carries the Legion family spirit, a place to live as independently as possible, and where residents look out for one another. Set in 17 acres of landscaped gardens, it accommodates up to 90 residents. The home can provide long and short term care, including nursing care, personal care and dementia personal care.

Jacqui Ibbotson, who received the cheque on behalf of Somerset Legion House, said: “This generous donation will help us to provide the extra resources that help to make a break at SLH such a wonderful experience for our visitors.”CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Royal British Legion branch supports Legion homes

Anne Lewin, home manager for Dunkirk Memorial House, added: “This money will help to enhance the quality of life experienced by our residents in this superb facility.”

Members of the Ilminster Branch raised the money by fundraising at the town's Lions Fete and Party on the Park, and from a number of generous donations and legacies.

They meet on the fourth Monday of every month, except for August and December, at the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster and would very much like to welcome new members.
