ILMINSTER NEWS: Council to look at emergency toilet facilities for the Rec

TEMPORARY toilet facilities on the Ilminster Recreation Ground will hopefully be installed sooner rather than later.
It was in the early hours of Sunday, July 10, 2016, when a stolen Honda motorcycle was set on fire by the toilet block next to the well-used play area. The fire then went on to cause significant damage to the toilet block and adjoining tuck shop facilities.
They have been closed ever since and fenced off and with the six-week school summer holidays up and running the vandalism could not have come at a worse time with the play area expected to be in constant use.
Local councillors know only too well that the toilets are of great importance for the families which use the play area.
Members of Ilminster Town Council met on Tuesday (July 19, 2016) in closed session where they discussed the situation with the toilets at the recreation ground.
But town clerk Joy Norris told Ilminster Press: “Councillors have agreed that they would like to provide temporary toilet facilities on the Rec and I am researching options.”
There is no news as of yet as to when the arson-hit toilet block will be repaired and reopened.
