ILMINSTER Cricket Club is to host its club Open Evening - supported by Waitrose as part of national ECB campaign – on Friday (July 8, 2016).

The club will be throwing open its doors at the Ilminster Recreation Ground in Canal Way to the local community on Friday from 5pm as part of a nationwide initiative to help boost grassroots cricket participation.

The club is inviting all local cricket fans and people who are interested in finding out more about the club, to head along to the ground for the evening to watch some cricket, have a play and enjoy some food and drink, in a bid to entice new members to sign-up.

There will be a bouncy castle for the children, Pimms & Prosecco for the adults as well as a barbecue.

A local DJ will be creating the full T20 atmosphere as Ilminster Under-19s take on Queen Camel in the national T20 competition.

All the fun and action on Friday (July 8, 2016) will start from 5pm.CRICKET: Pimms, Prosecco, Music, Fun and Cricket – welcome to Ilminster CC’s open evening

Ilminster is one of hundreds of cricket clubs that will host an ECB Club Open Day this season and it is anticipated that thousands of events will be held at clubs across the country to coincide with England’s international cricket weekends throughout the summer.

Building on the successful launch of the initiative last year, clubs that host an official ECB Club Open Day this summer will be taking advantage of an exclusive £100 food and drink offer from new England cricket team sponsor Waitrose to help deliver their event.

Matt Sainsbury, of Ilminster CC, said: “We are inviting people to find out more about our club and enjoy our facilities for the day.

“Whether they just want a drink or two, or perhaps they are interested in taking a more active role in our club – they’ll be made most welcome.”

ECB Cricket Partnership Ambassador, Mike Gatting, who captained the England team between 1986-88, added: “Club Open Days has proven to be a fantastic way for cricket clubs to capitalise on the nation’s fervour for cricket during the summer.”

Ilminster runs four adult teams every weekend during the cricket season.  The club is also looking at developing a ladies team and six junior sections that run on various days of the week.
