ILMINSTER NEWS: Scarecrow competition winners get prizes

THE winners of Ilminster Town Council’s scarecrow competition have been presented certificates and prize gift tokens.
The presentations were made by the Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, before the council’s open spaces committee on Tuesday (June 28, 2016).
The Mayor said: “All the judges really enjoyed this competition – there were more entries than ever and the standard was really high.
“The scarecrows came in all shapes and sizes, there were individuals and groups but it was clear to see that every entry had been carefully thought about.”
The scarecrows were displayed around the town and judged during the weekend of the Ilminster Midsummer Experience; maps showing the location of each entry were publically available so that people could enjoy a walk to look at each one.
First prize went to Cygnet Pre-School whose entry impressed the judges with its use of recyclable materials, plants as legs and grass for hair.
Second prize went to Greenfylde First School which had a very topical Olympic theme of a diver going through Olympic rings, cleverly constructed of natural materials.
Third prize went to three-year-old Hannah Knight.
