FOOTBALL: Ilminster Town Reserves unveil new manager

ILMINSTER Town FC Reserves have announced James Govier as their new manager in the Devon and Exeter League.

Govier, who has moved to Ilminster from Chard United of the Perry Street League, has said he is hugely excited about joining The Blues at a time when the club’s ambitious project to have new facilities nears fruition with the imminent opening of the Archie Gooch Pavilion in Britten’s Field.

“I feel this is an exceptional opportunity not only to challenge myself as manager having spent the last seven years as manager of Chard United but for players to be using such quality facilities,” he said.

“I will not hide away from the fact that since Ilminster Reserves entered the Devon and Exeter League they have struggled for stability and have found themselves at the wrong end of the table more often than not, so it’s clear my job is to change this and I am very confident that with a few quality additions to the squad we can see a change in fortunes and look forward to a positive season with the ultimate goal of securing promotion.”

And Govier added: “I would like to thank the committee members of ITFC for their initial support and backing and I hope next season we can enjoy much success.”

Pre-season starts next week on Tuesday (July 5, 2016) and Govier will be kept busy evaluating the squad before the 2016-17 season starts in August.

The Reserves currently have four friendly fixtures booked in and they are as follows: July 16 – Chard Rangers (A); July 23 – Thorncombe (A); July 30 – Ottery St Mary (A); August 6 – Chard United (A). Another friendly could be penned in for either August 9-10.
