ILMINSTER NEWS: Funding support for youth club evenings

COUNCILLORS have given their backing to the Ile Youth and Community Centre in Ilminster to the tune of £2,000.
Members of Ilminster Town Council were more than happy last week to support the bid for grant funding from the centre.
Chairman of the management committee, Gordon Childs, said: “This grant will provide funding for to continue 39 youth club evenings on a Friday for young people between the ages of 12-17.
“These youth evenings are run by the Active Learning and Skills group – a not-for-profit organisation with the help of young volunteers without which the programme would cost considerably more.”
The overall annual running costs are more than £6,500 and this is met with further fundraising activities.
Cllr Andrew Shearman, speaking at last Tuesday’s (February 23, 2016) town council meeting, said: “We agreed to help the youth club with a set amount each year.”
Cllr Philip Burton added: “It’s a good thing to do and we should approve it.”
