ILMINSTER NEWS: Final plans submitted for 72 homes on old Powrmatic site

PLANS have been submitted to South Somerset District Council for a new 72-home development on land in Ilminster to finally get the go-ahead.

Woodsome Estates Ltd has asked the council for planning permission to proceed with the project at a former factory site in Winterhay Lane.

The plans also include providing 600 square metres of office space for business use.

The actual plans were originally given planning permission by the council back on January 15, 2015, for the then applicants Powrmatic Ltd.

The earmarked land for the housing development had been used to house industrial sheds associated with the site’s previous use as a manufacturing plant for Powrmatic before the company relocated to nearby Hort Bride in 2007.

There were a number of “reserved matters” which needed to be addressed with respect to design, layout, plot boundaries, materials and landscaping.

Details regarding these “reserved matters” have now been submitted to the council with the hope that the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted to allow the scheme to move forward.

The applicants have previously said the “development at the former Powrmatic site will provide a significant amount of employment and housing in a location with good transport connections close to shops, services and facilities.

“The development will be based on a layout which is founded on the principles of legibility and which has directly responded to site constraints and opportunities, along with the character of the local area.

“It will lastly regenerate a vacant site in an area which is primarily in residential use.”

There are no further details available – as of yet - with regards the “reserved matters” application.

The proposed 72 properties will be a mix of two, three and four bedrooms.

The site sits opposite the Daido factory in Winterhay Lane.
