ILMINSTER NEWS: Are you passionate about Ilminster?

PEOPLE have still got time to apply if they want to put their name forward as a future member of Ilminster Town Council.
The council is looking for a new councillor - a person who is enthusiastic about the town and community of Ilminster and would like to help make it a great place to live and work.
The Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, said: “We are looking for someone who is passionate about the town - knowledge of the town and its people are the most important qualities rather than any academic qualifications.
“The town council strives to make a positive difference to the quality of life for people who live or work in Ilminster and those who come to visit.
“We want a town council that understands the community it serves and comprises people across a broad age spectrum who have a wide range of experience, skills and knowledge that will help move the town forwards.”
When at full strength, Ilminster Town Council has 15 councillors and decisions are made through a system of committees. Meetings are usually on a Tuesday evening.
The council is responsible for the many of the open spaces in Ilminster including the Wharf Lane Recreation Ground, Britten’s Field and Herne Hill in addition to managing the cemetery and the weekly market.
This councillor vacancy will be filled by the process called co-option – which is rather like applying for a job; the starting point is to fill in an application form which can be downloaded from the town council website https://www.ilminster.gov.uk/about-ilminster/councillors/ or a hard copy can be requested by telephoning the council offices during working hours on 01460-52149.
Completed application forms must be returned by 12 noon on Friday, January 12, 2018.
