ILMINSTER NEWS: We will remember them

ILMINSTER remembered those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice by holding its annual Civic Service of Remembrance on Sunday (November 12, 2017).
The service at the Minster was hosted jointly by Ilminster Town Council and members of the Ilminster branch of the Royal British Legion.
Armed Forces personnel past and present were at the service, along with representatives of Armed Forces service organisations, youth groups, other organisations and schools.
The service was led by Rev Nigel Done, of the Minster, with prayers read by local Methodist Church minister Rev Anna Flindell.
The civic party was led by the Mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Val Keitch, along with the Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset, Peter Speke, and local MP Marcus Fysh.
Wadham School from Crewkerne and Ilminster’s Swanmead School and Greenfylde First School were represented with students laying wreaths.
Music was played by members of the Stoke-sub-Hamdon Band under the leadership of the musical director Keith Robins who later played the Last Post outside in the grounds of the Minster by the War Memorial.
People then paraded with the band from the Minster to the Archie Gooch Pavilion in Canal Way for refreshments where the Mayor thanked everyone for their attendance and to those who had organised a fitting service once again.
Parade marshall Paul Sainsbury congrautlated everyone on a fine Ilminster turnout for the Remembrance Day service and thanked the Ilminster Carnival Committee for providing marshalls for the parade.
