ILMINSTER NEWS: World record cream tea party attempt at Tesco

STAFF and customers at the Tesco store in Ilminster are hoping to have played their part in setting a new Guiness World Record.
This is the second year the Tesco stores in the Bristol and Somerset area have really got involved in the Macmillan Cancer Support charity’s “biggest coffee morning” event.
And the Ilminster store was delighted to be part of it and played a leading role in trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by setting a world record for the largest cream tea party for multiple venues all the same time.
The current record stands at 667 people from the Yorkshire Building Society at branches in Leeds, Bradford, Peterborough and Cheltenham back in June 2015.
But now the Tesco group is keeping its fingers-crossed that it will soon be named as the world record holders after holding a cream tea party in 26 venues from all around Bristol and Somerset last Friday (September 29, 2017).
Party-goers were served a scone, jam, clotted cream and a cup of tea and it is believed that around 800 people took part.
Ilminster store manager Sara Goodchild said that they were now waiting for adjudication from the Guinness Book of World Records before they could start savouring the taste of a world record and enjoying something stronger than a cup of tea!
But, importantly, the Tesco cream tea efforts from the Bristol and Somerset area raised a fantastic £4,000 for Macmillan.
“We’re so pleased to support this outstanding cause and the work they do for people needing cancer care and for their families,” said Sara.
She thanked everyone who took part and support the cream tea event at Tesco Ilminster.
