YOUTH CRICKET: Conveyor belt of talent keeps on coming for Ilminster

ILMINSTER Youth Cricket Club celebrated the end of another successful summer with its annual end-of-season get-together.

The young players along with family members and their team coaches and managers gathered at the Tony Rice Shed at Ilminster Recreation Ground on Friday (September 29, 2017) evening.

Team managers Darren Grinter, Craig Rice, Tony Millett and Mark English were all on hand to congratulate the players on their efforts which had resulted in league and cup success and some sparkling individual performances.

Darren Grinter, who manages the club’s Under-16s and Under-19s sides, said he took great pride in seeing the “conveyor belt” of young talent push on from the youth set-up and move up into the senior ranks and eventually first team.

“It’s great to see them take over from the Dad’s Army of the first team,” he said.

Craig Rice thanked everyone for their support over the summer, but added if anyone wanted to take more of an active part in the youth section of Ilminster Cricket Club then please to get in touch.

Once again the team managers highlighted some key matches, great team displays and heroic batting and bowling performances.

The future does look bright for Ilminster Cricket Club if some of the raw and youthful talent and exuberance can continue to be developed in a positive fashion.

There were no individual awards for the young Ilminster All Stars or the Ilminster Under-10s with every player receiving a medal for their efforts.

But other Player of the Season Awards were as follows: Ilminster Under-11s: Batsman of the year, Joel Harris; bowler of the year, Lachlan Rice; all-rounder of the year, JT Langridge; manager’s player of the year, Hugh Moore.
