FOOTBALL: Ilminster Town pressing for top five spot

ILMINSTER Town will be looking to continue their good start to the 2017-18 season on Saturday (September 23, 2017) when they will be looking for another positive result when Stockwood Wanderers are the visitors to the Archie Gooch Pavilion.

The Blues take on visitors Stockwood Wanderers in a 3pm kick-off and a victory for Ilminster could push them up into the top five in the Premier Division table of the Somerset County League.

Ilminster have lost just one of their seven games to date and are currently seventh in the table while their visitors on Saturday are down in 11th place with just one win from their opening seven matches.

But the Ilminster Town management team will know that their players will have to be on form to chalk up a three-point haul.

Last weekend The Blues picked up a point in a 0-0 draw when they travelled to Wrington & Redhill down the busy M5 and arrived just 30 minutes before kick-off.

The home side were out of the blocks quickly and would not allow Ilminster a foot hold in the game.

Given the start it was unsurprising when Wrington had the first chance on goal and Ilminster keeper Chris May pulled off a stunning side.

Wrington continued to press and missed a one on one chance with the home striker putting his shot wide.

Ilminster’s best chances fell to Jake Woodard who's free header went wide of the target and a Lee Sweet run that did not test the home keeper.
The second-half saw a change of formation by The Blues and created a couple of chances through Lee Sweet and Taylor Jefferson who's shots went just wide.

Seventy minutes into the game the home side had a chance to score from the spot after uncertainty by Luke Paul ended with keeper Chris May bringing down a home player inside the box.

But the inspirational keeper made up for his mistake by saving the resulting penalty and the game petered out to a 0-0 draw in which The Blues would be the happier of the teams as they could not quite get going.
