ILMINSTER NEWS: Canal Way Action Group public meeting planned

AN action group has been formed to fight the proposed 400-house development by Persimmon Homes in Ilminster.
The developers are looking to gain outline planning permission from South Somerset District Council to take the next step towards the housing scheme earmarked for land off Canal Way.
The council’s Area West committee has already discussed the application and passed it on to the authority’s regulation committee to decide an outcome and this will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 10am at the SSDC offices in Yeovil.
Now the Canal Way Action Group – made of people unhappy with the current proposals on the table – will be holding a public meeting to provide residents with an opportunity to express their views and to assist in mounting an effective opposition to the scheme.
This action group meeting will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 7pm at the Minster Rooms in Court Barton, Ilminster.
The group knows that the area earmarked for development by Persimmon has already been pencilled in by the council for its “area of growth” – the direction in which future housing requirements.
So although people know that housing will eventually go on that land off Canal Way, they are still unhappy with the amount of homes expected.
