ILMINSTER NEWS: Flooding drop-in session announced by County Hall

PEOPLE are being invited to a public drop-in session with Somerset County Council officers to discuss flooding problems in the Ditton Street area of Ilminster.
The session will take place on Monday, August 14, 2017, between 3.30pm and 7pm at the Minster Rooms in Court Barton, Barton.
A Somerset County Council spokesman said: “We would like to invite residents to take the opportunity to call-in and meet with Somerset County Council’s flood team and highways officers, representatives from South Somerset District Council and the Environment Agency who are working closely to investigate the flood event of Sunday, July 23, 2017.”
The spokesman added: “The investigation will establish the mechanisms that have contributed to the flooding and set out actions in response.
“It is intended that the investigation will be the first step towards identifying feasible mitigating measures and how these might be taken forward.
“To assist and inform our investigation work we would be grateful for any photographs and videos the town council or community may have taken of the flooding.
“While we have received some already the more information we have the better. It will also be an opportunity for residents to discuss with the various representatives their concerns and what the outcomes of this work will be.
“We encourage all residents affected by the flooding to attend and share their opinions and information.”
A number of shops, businesses and private homes were flooded during last month’s sudden downpour.
