ILMINSTER NEWS: Recreation Ground toilets to be rebuilt

WORK on rebuilding the public toilet block facilities at the Ilminster Recreation Ground are scheduled to start later this month.
It is understood that work will begin on Monday, August 14, 2017, and take about ten weeks to complete.
The toilets – owned by Ilminster Town Council - have been out of action for over a year ever since the early hours of Sunday, July 10, 2016, when the block, which is situated near a children’s play area, was badly damaged by fire in a suspected arson attack.
The facilities had previously contained a male toilet area with urinals and cubicles and one female/disabled toilet.
The layout will be reconfigured in the rebuilt facilities to provide four unisex toilets and a disabled toilet and baby changing area.
A claim for repairing and rebuilding the toilet black has been accepted by the council’s insurance company.
It is not believed that anybody has been charged with the fire at the toilet block with police having previously said the case was “unsolved.”
The previous facilities also included a small refreshment kiosk which was run on a voluntary basis, but it has yet to be decided as to whether this will continue in the future.
