ILMINSTER NEWS: Plans in the offing for Horlicks site?

NEW plans for the development of the old long-time empty Horlicks site in Ilminster could be in the pipeline.
Alchemy Properties have only just withdrawn an application first submitted to South Somerset District Council back in 2008 for the demolition of a former cheese factory complex and the development of various employment uses on land at Hort Bridge known as Horlicks Farm off Station Road.
But the developers’ agents, Alder King Planning Consultants, have hinted that a new application for the site could be in the offing.
Grant Watson, of Alder King, told the district council on May 23, 2017, that he was “hopeful that a fresh application will be made in the not too distant future.”
The abandoned Horlicks dairy in Ilminster close to the Southfields roundabout has been labelled an eyesore and a depressing sight for people entering the town.
The dairy, which closed production in 2001, has become an overgrown and derelict site.
Ilminster Town Council has previously supported - in principle - the idea of industrial development on the proposed site as it would provide additional and much-needed employment opportunities in the area.
The application which has just been withdrawn – nearly ten years after originally being submitted to the district council – also included the formation of vehicle accesses, public highway, flood mitigation and related works.
