ILMINSTER NEWS: Ilminster remains Conservative at County Hall

CLLR Linda Vijeh has held onto the Ilminster division at Somerset County Council with an impressive 756-vote victory over Liberal Democrat rival Carol Goodall.
Political pundits may have predicted a closer battle between the Conservative and LibDem candidates who are both serving members of South Somerset District Council.
But it was Cllr Vijeh, who was the sitting County Hall representative for Ilminster, who retained the division by polling 1,736 votes.
Peter Lansdown, of the Green Party, came third with 203, while Don Kinder, of UKIP, and Labour’s Ian Mackillip came fourth and fifth respectively.
The Ilminster result from the Somerset County Council election held on Thursday (May 4, 2017) was the sixth to be announced during the count held at the Westlands Yeovil entertainment venue in the early hours of Friday (May 5, 2017) morning.
ILMINSTER DIVISION: Carol Ann Goodall, Liberal Democrats 980; Don Kinder, UK Independence Party 169; Peter Lansdown, Green Party 203; Ian Rupert Mackillip, Labour 160; Linda Patricia Vijeh, Conservative 1,736.
