SOMERSET NEWS: Quick thinking prevents serious damage after vape machine charger catches on fire

A VAPE machine being left on charge is understood to have been the cause of a fire at a home near Chard and Ilminster during the early hours of Wednesday (May 3, 2017).
Fire engines from Chard and Ilminster were called out at just after 4am to the incident at Wood Croft Meadows in Bishopswood.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a concerned neighbour who could hear the smoke detector sounding in the property next door.
“They went to investigate and could see a fire in the kitchen so range 999 straight away,” said a Fire Service spokesman.
“By the time we got there the fire was already out. The fire had started from a Vape machine being left on charge and the fire had been put out by the occupant and neighbour using a dry powder extinguisher.”
The spokesman added: “The property obtained smoke damage from the dire but luckily further fire spread was prevented due to working fire alarms and the quick-thinking of the occupant and the neighbour.”
Vape machines are used in the use of e-cigarette kits.
