ILMINSTER NEWS: Jo Sothern resigns from town council

A MEMBER of Ilminster Town Council has announced that she has tendered her resignation from the authority due to health reasons.
Joanna Sothern announced on Tuesday (April 18, 2017) that she had officially resigned as a town councillor.
Mrs Sothern has had some health issues of late and felt it would be in the best interest of the council if she stood down.
“I am unable to devote as much time as is needed to the role,” she said. “After much deliberation I felt that resigning from the council was the best option.”
Mrs Sothern was initially co-opted onto the town council in 2011 and was then re-elected at the local elections of 2015.
“I stood as an independent as I genuinely felt, as an ordinary member of the public, I could represent the residents of Ilminster,” she said. “I hope I haven’t let anyone down.”
Mrs Sothern said she had enjoyed her time on the council and felt she had “done my bit for Ilminster.”
But she added: “I really can’t commit my time now and don’t like doing any job unless I can give 100 per cent.”
