SOMERSET NEWS: No grounds for complaint against Chief Constable

AN investigation has found "no evidence" to support complaints made against Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s Chief Constable Andy Marsh.

The Police and Crime Commissioner, Sue Mountstevens, was required by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to appoint a police force to investigate complaints against Chief Constable Andy Marsh in May 2016.

The complaints relate to an investigation by Hampshire Constabulary in 2013, when Andy Marsh was Chief Constable of the force.

Avon and Somerset PCC, Ms Mountstevens, said: “The report from Essex Police’s Chief Constable Steve Kavanagh found that there is no evidence to support the complaints against Chief Constable Andy Marsh, therefore I have decided not to uphold the complaints.

“This latest investigation has taken seven months. Essex Police has spent hundreds of hours on this matter and reviewed thousands of documents and I would like to thank them for their time.”

The latest investigation follows a previous inquiry in 2014 in which Chief Constable Andy Marsh was cleared of any wrong doing. All the complaints against Chief Constable Andy Marsh relate to Hampshire Constabulary’s investigation at a special needs school in 2013.
