ILMINSTER NEWS: Severe weather conditions and possible school closures

PARENTS of pupils at Swanmead School in Ilminster have been told what to do if they are unsure as to whether the school will be open in the event of snow.
There has been predicted heavy snowfall for the country and Swanmead headteacher Mark Walker has explained in the school’s latest newsletter how parents can find out if the school is open or going to close early because of bad weather.
Mr Walker said: “Should the weather forecast tell us that we might be expecting some colder weather we will always endeavour to ensure that the school is open if it is safe to do so.
“If you suspect that there could be the potential that the school might be closed then I remind parents of the different options there are to check.”
In the event of bad weather and possible school closure notices will be placed on Swanmead’s official website at www.swanmeadschool.co.uk and on the front door of the school.
Radio stations BBC Somerset Sound, Heart FM, Breeze FM and Tone FM will also have information as will other media outlets such as the Ilminster Press.
