ILMINSTER NEWS: Report street light failures to County Hall

THERE are growing concerns about the failure of street lights along a busy road in the centre of Ilminster.
Cllr Linda Vijeh, Ilminster’s representative at Somerset County Council, has said she has been contacted by a local resident about the problems with street lighting in Silver Street.
She has reported the matter to County Hall and reminded people about the process for reporting faults.
“The phone line for reporting faults during working hours is 0845-601-0939 or 0845-795-9639 outside these hours,” she said.
“When reporting faults the number on the street light column should be noted. Repair timescale is usually five working days with priority given to those faults posing a risk to public safety.”
It should be noted that the highways department at County Hall is only responsible for street lights on adopted roads, while South Somerset District Council is responsible for street lights on unadopted roads on land owned by itself such as car parks, parks and amenity areas.
Faults on adopted highways can also reported to the roads and transport team via email at roadsandtransportSD@somerset.gov.uk .
