SOMERSET NEWS: Man arrested after serious sexual assault

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault which is alleged to have happened in Bridgwater on Friday (December 16, 2016).
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault which took place shortly before midnight close to a block of garages off Silver Street.
A police spokesman said: “A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
Officers are keen to speak to anyone in the area at a similar time.
Detective Nick Riley said: “The victim continues to receive support from specially trained officers.
“We would like to speak to anyone who might have information on this incident but, specifically, a woman who was walking along Silver Street close to the time of the incident.
“It is possible people in the area didn’t realise the significance of what they might have seen.
“Any information, no matter how minor it may appear, could be crucial to our investigation.”
