SOMERSET NEWS: Don’t forget to order repeat prescriptions for festive season

SOMERSET GPs are reminding people not to forget to get their repeat prescriptions before the Christmas holiday.
Dr Ed Ford, interim chairman of Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Christmas is a busy time for us all and so it’s easy to forget to order your repeat prescriptions in time for the Christmas holiday.
“Taking a few minutes to think about your health but ordering and collecting any repeat prescriptions in good time over will save you a lot of anxiety if you find you have run out of your essential medication.”
Dr Ford, who is based in Minehead, added: “Also please check your supplies at home before ordering your repeat medication and only order what you need.
“Running out of your daily medication over the festive period could have serious consequences if you who rely on your medicines to control your symptoms. You will also be helping NHS 111 and the county’s emergency GP services at Christmas.
“One of the most common reasons why patients called the NHS 111 telephone helpline last Christmas was because they had run out of their prescription medicines. So don’t delay, order your repeat prescriptions today.”
If you become unwell over the Christmas break and need medical advice, GP out-of-hours services can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling NHS 111.
The number is free to call from mobile or home telephones. Or go online and check your symptoms at: www.nhs.uk .
