ILMINSTER NEWS: Free parking in council-owned car parks

FESTIVE cheer will be spread to shoppers in Chard, Crewkerne and Ilminster with the news that they will be able to park for free on one Saturday in the build-up to Christmas.
South Somerset District Council's (SSDC) Area West Committee agreed at their meeting in November to fund free parking on Saturday, December 17, 2016, to encourage shoppers to support our market towns in the festive season and rediscover what can be bought locally.
The free car parking initiative from SSDC’s Area West Committee is only applicable in South Somerset District Council run car parks.
Cllr Carol Goodall, chairman of the Area West committee at South Somerset District Council, said: “Offering free car parking during the festive period entices people to shop local but also will hopefully attract visitors to enjoy the independent shops in Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne. We hope people will take advantage of the free parking on this particular day.”
