ILMINSTER NEWS: World first in Ilminster with Fair Hair!

AN innovative local campaign, which has been cited as a ‘world first’ by the Fairtrade Foundation, has been launched by the Ilminster Fairtrade group.
The Fair Hair campaign is a unique project that has sought a commitment from local hairdressing salons to serve Fairtrade tea, coffee and other refreshments when offering complimentary drinks to their customers.
Most of Ilminster’s hairdressing salons have signed up to the project and will be displaying the famous “Ask for Fairtrade here” sign on their windows; so, where you see the sign, ask for Fairtrade.

Roger Gurner, chairman of Ilminster Fair Trade, said: “Small changes such as this can make a big difference.
“Fairtrade encourages people to support local traders who are working to put Ilminster on the Fairtrade map.
“Fairtrade is not just about bananas or chocolate from developing countries, it is also about treating our own farmers fairly. Indeed Ilminster Fairtrade’s motto is ‘If you can’t buy local, buy Fairtrade.’ So please do support those hairdressers who are supporting Fair Hair.”
The Fair Hair campaign is one of a number of exciting projects delivered by Ilminster Fairtrade.
The project was included within the action plan that was submitted to the Fairtrade Foundation earlier this year, securing Ilminster’s Fairtrade Town status for a further two years.
Hair salons taking part are Adorn in Ditton Street, Hannah May in West Street, Ilminster Hair and Beauty in Silver Street, Mark Hebron in East Street, Penhalagan’s in Silver Street and Sophistikuts in Silver Street.
