CRICKET: It now looks like The Chalet rather than The Shed

ILMINSTER Cricket Club has thanked everyone for their ongoing support in the refurbishment of The Shed.
The popular and well-used bar on the Recreation Ground in Canal Way has been very much in need of some TLC and that has been top of the agenda for the club after it took sole responsibility for the building with Ilminster Town FC moving to its new headquarters at the Archie Gooch Pavilion on the adjoining Britten’s Field.
The Shed has undergone a major improvement on the exterior with a new roof and timber cladding installed to make it look totally different to how it once appeared which some might have described as “tired looking.”
But the work which has been carried out has transformed the building from the outside and even cricket club chairman Paul Knight quipped that it now “looks more like The Chalet than The Shed.”
The club held a “thank you” evening recently where it invited local supporters who have been backing the project with help and funds and representatives of Ilminster Town Council including the Mayor, Cllr Val Keitch, and the Gooch Charitable Trust.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported the club,” said Mr Knight. “Everyone who has been involved so far in the project has done a great job.”
The club has formed a special committee – dubbed Dad’s Army - to oversee the refurbishment project.
Mr Knight made a special thank you to John Pallister for his “fantastic efforts” so far on the work.
Phase one of the refurbishment has now been completed, while phase two will be dedicated to giving the inside of The Shed a full redecoration.
There are also proposals in the pipeline to improve the pavilion building opposite The Shed which is used by cricketers on match days for changing facilities.
The Mayor, Cllr Keitch, said she was really impressed with how The Shed was looking from the outside, wished the cricket club the very best of luck for the future and was delighted to support the project.
