ILMINSTER AREA NEWS: Arsonists set fire to village pavilion

ARSONISTS are being hunted by police following a fire at a pavilion in Dowlish Wake near Ilminster.

Two fire engines from Ilminster and Chard were mobilised on Thursday (October 13, 2016) evening at around 7.15pm to the incident in Chard Lane.

Firefighters discovered the pavilion was well alight and requested further support from Chard and Yeovil.

They found that LPG cylinders were at the rear of the property and involved in the fire.

A fire investigation officer was requested to attend due to the suspicious nature of the incident, along with a hazardous materials officer due to the cylinders involved.

By 11pm the crews were beginning to wind down the operation and damping down the last few hotspots at the remains of the wooden-built pavilion.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate,” said a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. “The police are in attendance investigating.”
