SOMERSET NEWS: Would you like to be a firefighter?

ANYONE interested in becoming a firefighter is being invited to go along and see the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service stand at next week’s careers fair being held near Bridgwater.
The One Step Foundation Somerset Skills and Careers Fair is being held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at The Venue @J24 at Market Way, North Petherton, from 9am to 6pm.
The Fire Service will be among 100 exhibitors at the fair which is expected to attract around 3,000 visitors.
Workforce diversity project officer, Caroline Anderson, said the Fire Services’s stand was numbered 44-45.
“We are really looking forward to the exhibition,” she said. “The stand will be very interactive with a range of firefighting kit for everyone to try out.
“We will have operational females on the stand with the aim of changing people’s perceptions around the role. We will also be encouraging anyone who lives close to a station that is recruiting to apply. We look forward to seeing you on the day!”
Being an on-call firefighter in the modern Fire Service offers both women and men flexible employment that can be arranged around their own schedule as well as providing an exciting way to help their local community. There are few other careers that provide such day-to-day variety and longer-term development opportunities.
A range of Fire Service community safety vehicles will be outside the exhibition promoting the work Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service in road and home fire safety.
Everyone is welcome to come along and meet the crew and find out more about becoming a Firefighter.
