SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Cow rescued from slurry pit

A COW has been rescued this morning (Saturday, October 1, 2016) after getting stuck in a slurry pit in Crewkerne.
The alarm was raised at 10.30am about the problem in Barn Lane with reports that the animal was three quarters submerged in the slurry pit and was in distress.
Firefighters from Crewkerne and Martock were mobilised along with a specialist rescue team from Poole in Dorset.
But once the firefighters from Crewkerne arrived at the scene they told the rescue team to turn back as the farmer was already able to help with ropes, lines and a telehandler.
“Crews were quickly able to secure the ropes and lines around the animal and with the farmer’s help were able to walk the cow to safety and out of the slurry pit,” said a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
