SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Paddy Ashdown will be signing in

CHARD Bookshop has announced that Lord Ashdown, better known as former Yeovil MP Paddy Ashdown, will be visiting to sign copies of his newest book Game of Spies.
Lord Ashdown, also a former leader of the Liberal Democrats, will be at Chard Bookshop in Pig Lane, off Holyrood Street, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, between 11am and midday to meet people and sign copies of his book which is a riveting three-way spy story set in occupied France.
Game of Spies’ tells the story of a lethal spy triangle in Bordeaux between 1942 and 1944 and of France’s greatest betrayal by aristocratic and right-wing Resistance leader Andre Grandclement.

The story centres on three men: one British, one French and one German and the duel they fought out in an atmosphere of collaboration, betrayal and assassination, in which comrades sold fellow comrades, Allied agents and downed pilots to the Germans, as casually as they would a bottle of wine. It is a story of SOE, treachery, bed-hopping and executions in the city labelled `la plus collaboratice’ in the whole of France.
An accomplished writer, Lord Ashdown, has had an illustrious career serving as a Royal Marine and Special Boat Service officer. He was MP for the Yeovil constituency from 1983 to 2001 and still lives locally in South Somerset.
The book is priced at £20. Whilst readers are very welcome to just drop in on the day, the bookshop is also accepting pre-orders from those keen to secure their copy.
Chard Bookshop opened in June of this year and is located in Chard, near to Sainsbury’s at 3 Pig Lane, TA20 3DQ.
