SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Armed police arrest wanted man

AN AREA of Chard was sealed off earlier today (Thursday, September 8, 2016) while armed police officers surrounded a house in which a wanted man was hiding.
Social media has been awash with pictures of police officers in Combe Street – some with guns – while the Avon and Somerset Police helicopter was also in attendance covering events from the sky.
The police have taken to Twitter this evening to say that a “wanted person has been arrested.”
But they have confirmed that it was not a “firearms incident” although photos clearly show officers armed with guns.
“No threat to the public and no weapon,” concluded the police message on Twitter.
Although people have spoken on social media of their shock at seeing such activity in their own community, one person did put some sense of reality to it all.
“Crime is everywhere, but it is more noticeable in small places like Chard,” they wrote. “I would rather live here than other places I have lived and know of.”
