SOMERSET NEWS: Police appeal over hit and run incident in Taunton

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a car and a bicycle on East Reach in Taunton.
The incident took place at approximately 10.50pm on Wednesday (August 17, 2016) and involved a police officer being knocked off his bike.
The car is believed to have turned directly into the cyclist’s path causing the two to collide. The victim went over the vehicle and fell to the ground leaving him injured. The car involved failed to stop.
Inspector Lee Jones, of Taunton Police, said: “We take hit and run collisions very seriously. You are obliged to stop by law and it is an offence to drive off. We strongly encourage the person involved to come forward voluntarily.”
Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them now on 101 and quote reference number 5216183587.
