SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Massive barn fire at South Petherton

A BARN containing up to 300 tonnes of round bales of hay caught on fire late last night (Tuesday, August 16, 2016) at South Petherton.
The alarm was raised at just before midnight to the problem at Rylands Farm at East Lambrook Road.
Fire engines from Martock, Ilminster, Crewkerne and Yeovil were all called out along with a water carrier, also from Yeovil.
They found the barn – measuring 30m x 15m – was well alight and requested the attendance of another fire engine which was sent from Somerton, along with an incident command unit from Street.
The electricity board was requested to attend due to power cables being involved in the fire, while police were also there to close the road along with ambulance paramedics due to the amount of firefighting personnel at the scene.
Another fire engine from Yeovil was requested due to the scale of the incident, along with a telehandler from Exeter.
More details on this later.
