SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Wurzels wow the crowds at Chard RFC

WEST Country music legends The Wurzels wowed the crowds at Chard Rugby Club on Saturday (August 13, 2016) in their own indomitable style.
The music extravaganza at the club in Essex Close started with Above Suspicion and the three-piece rock band covered hit after hit in a high energy set and to get the crowd “up” for the arrival of The Wurzels.
The band – now in its 50th year – entertained with their Scrumpy and Western hits including I Am A Cider Drinker and Combine Harvester and quickly had everyone singing along and dancing.
DJ Ginge was also on hand to ensure the music kept on coming through the night to keep everyone entertained.
Chard RFC bar manager Simon Mainwaring said that he was delighted with the turnout and thanked all those that came along to support the club and to all the volunteers that made the event run so smoothly.
Club chairman Gavin Smillie thanked Neil Robinson, Naomi Hopkins, Kath Turner and Simon Mainwaring for working hard over the last eight weeks to make the night possible and to the sponsors and ticket outlets that helped to finance the event ensuring that vital funds are raised to invest in Chard Rugby.
The club would like to thank Samson Office Supplies Ltd, Lift West, Carlsberg, Bath House and Hotel, Thatchers Cider, Boon Brown, Chard News, Yeovil Hire Centre, St Austell Brewery, Razooks, Paul Fenton, Bargain Box, Eagle Plant and Gemini Carnival Club for their support.
The next event at the club is this coming Saturday (August 20, 2016) when Salisbury RFC will visit Chard for the first pre-season match of the new campaign. Kick-off is at 3pm.
