ILMINSTER NEWS: Two new councillors elected – still one to find

ILMINSTER Town Council has two new councillors – following an uncontested bye-election.
Matt James, of Blackdown View, and Ian Mackillop, of Hazelwell Lane, have both been elected to the council.
The council was in need of three new members following the resignations earlier this year of Carol Goodall, Rose Neave and Sophie Storey.
At least ten electors had asked South Somerset District Council for a bye-election to be held with the deadline for nominations last week.
But despite there being enough support for an election, which would have been held on August 18, 2016, only two candidates came forward.
Those candidates have automatically become town councillors, but the council still needs to find another new member.
It is expected that the process of seeking nominations will have to start afresh to abide by the wishes of those wanting an election.
The authorities will be hoping that just one person steps forward to be elected uncontested rather than having to go to the expense of holding an actual election.
