SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Fire at Eagle Tavern pub

FIREFIGHTERS from Chard and Ilminster were mobilised yesterday (Wednesday, July 20, 2016) following a fire at the well-known Eagle Tavern pub on the A303.
The Fire Service received a number of calls from members of the public who reported seeing a barn on fire next to the pub which was used as a storage building.
The alarm was raised at just after 4.30pm and three fire engines were sent out to deal with the incident.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We confirmed that the fire had started accidentally after a bonfire had been lit too close to the building and had spread.
“The building was severely damaged and low risk asbestos was also found to be involved in the roof construction.”
The spokesman added: “Nobody was involved or injured and once we’d put the fire out, duty of care was left with staff.”
