ILMINSTER NEWS: Sponsors wall proves big attraction at Archie Gooch Pavilion

IT might seem odd that one of the big attractions at a family fun day held at Ilminster Town Football Club’s new Archie Gooch Pavilion at the weekend was for people to look at a brick wall – but this was no ordinary brick wall.
The pavilion threw open its doors on Saturday (July 9, 2016) as part of a fun day which included a giant water slide which was enjoyed greatly by those who took part.
But there was great interest inside the newly-built pavilion – which is still to be properly furnished – by a wall made up of engraved bricks paid for by sponsors.
Dozens of bricks have been sponsored by individuals, organisations, companies and other sports clubs, while some have been paid for in memory of those who have passed away, but would love the new facilities offered at the Archie Gooch Pavilion.
People throughout the day went and looked at the wall to try and pick out their own sponsored brick and to see who else had one.
The wall has raised much-needed valuable funds for the project and sponsorship co-ordinator, Paul Webber, said he would like to thank everyone who has supported the club.
“The sponsors wall provided a lot of interest on Saturday,” he said. “We can’t thank people enough for the support they have shown.
“The Archie Gooch Pavilion isn’t just for Ilminster Town FC – it is for the whole of Ilminster to enjoy and use.”
Already there are a number of groups who have expressed an interest in using the facilities once they are fully up and running.
Saturday’s fun day was a huge success and the Ilminster Press was there on the day and took more than 1,000 photos of people enjoying the giant water slide attraction.
The photos can be found in 35 galleries in our Photo Gallery section at http://www.ilminsterpress.co.uk/blog/tag/galleries/ . Anyone wanting to buy copies – please contact ilminsterpress@gmail.com. The photos (5x7) are priced at £3 each with all proceeds going back to Ilminster Town FC.
