ILMINSTER NEWS: Memory Café receives its share of the Queen’s street party funds

THE Ilminster Memory Café has received a £300 donation – thanks to those who supported the Queen’s 90th birthday street party outside the town’s Tesco store earlier this month.

The Memory Café is run every other Wednesday at the Minster Rooms in Court Barton, Ilminster, between 10am to midday.

The café is open to anyone living with or supporting someone with the onset of dementia and it allows people to get together and support each other.

A community street party was held outside the Tesco store in Ilminster on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in which people of all ages came together to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

It was a great event and raised around £300 for charity to be shared between Save the Children and the Memory Café in Ilminster.

The Lions Club also donated a further £150 towards the funds for the Memory Café from money they had raised during the street party.

Tesco’s Ilminster community champion, Helena Jones, went along to the Memory Café last week to present the £300 to the café organiser Becky Beggs and users.

Becky said she would like to thank Tesco, the Lions Club and everyone who helped to make the street party such a success.

She said the money would be put to good use to include further Christmas entertainment, musical bingo and manicures for the café’s ladies.

Tesco’s Helena Jones said: “We are delighted that all of the fun we had at the street party has enabled us to make this donation to the Memory Café – which is a great group for Ilminster to have.

“Obviously I would like to thank everyone who attended the party and donated and especially to the Lions Club for giving us a £150 donation.”
