ILMINSTER NEWS: Oyez! Town crier Andrew Fox is Ilminster’s very own Captain Jack Sparrow!

ILMINSTER town crier Andrew Fox brought back the silverware at the weekend after winning a competition in Tiverton.
Andrew and his wife Julie travelled the short distance down to Devon to take part in Tiverton’s own Town Crier Competition on Saturday (May 28, 2016).
“When Julie and I are about in Ilminster in uniform, it’s not uncommon for little ones to say “oh look – a pirate,” said Andrew.
He said that “Johnny Depp has a lot to answer for” in relation to the Hollywood actor’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the hit Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
But Andrew said: “I did a bit of piracy of my own on Saturday when we went to Tiverton and stolen the Devonshire silverware and brought it back to Somerset.”
Andrew added: “It was a good strong field with 17 town criers from all around the West Country taking part.”
Overall results: 1 Andrew Fox, Ilminster; 2 Roy Goodwin, Ilfracombe; 3 David Turner, Tavistock.
Best dressed crier – Stephen Cunliffe, Dawlish; best dressed consort – Julie O’Shaughnessy, Milbrook.
