FOOTBALL: Ilminster Town sign off at home with narrow defeat

ILMINSTER Town Football Club's first team completed their 2015-16 home games yesterday (Monday, May 2, 2016) with a narrow 1-0 defeat to league champions Middlezoy Rovers.

It was just one first-half goal which separated the two sides in a game which was Ilminster’s last at their long-standing headquarters at Ilminster Recreation Ground.

The club will be moving its new pitch and clubhouse – named the Archie Gooch Pavilion – at the adjoining Britten’s Field for the start of the 2016-17 season.

Middlezoy have romped to the Division One West title in the Somerset County League and remain unbeaten in their 23 matches played to date.

Ilminster are sixth in the 13-team league with one game to play this season which will be away at Street Reserves on May 11, 2016.

Ilminster Town’s move to new premises at Britten’s Field will also mean that in the future Ilminster Cricket Club will have sole control of The Shed clubhose on the Recreation Ground.
